Yield potential
Wicket is one of the highest yielding feed spring barley's on the 2005 HGCA Recommended List

Wicket has given very high yields across all regions of the UK, performing especially well in the West region.

Disease resistance
Wicket has a robust disease resistance profile with an improved Rhynchosporium rating over current established feed varieties.

Fungicide use
Whilst having a robust disease resistance profile, Wicket would still benefit from a standard fungicide programme with the emphasis placed on establishing a healthy crop.
- T0 - Unix will help in preventing mildew infections occurring.
- T1 - T1 is key for protecting the canopy during the plants main burst of growth. Unix & Acanto provide a broad-spectrum disease control.
- T2 - T2 applications help to protect the plant during grain fill and ensure a healthy harvest. Strobilurins protect against foliar diseases and Chlorothalonil has demonstrated excellent control of biotic and abiotic spotting.
Agronomic information
Wicket is a medium / late maturing variety with unbeatable resistance to lodging and brackling.

Recommended sowing rate
Seed rates are dependent on soil conditions at the time of drilling, the more difficult the environment the higher the seed rate must be to compensate the potential plant loss. The table below shows the number of seeds per square metre that should be planted in good conditions.
The chart above should always be used in conjunction with thousand-grain weight of the seed to calculate the correct seed rate.
Nitrogen application
Apply high rates of nitrogen for maximum yield with a split application being advised.
PGRs
Normally not required (particularly with a variety as stiff as Wicket) however NFC advises the use on lush crops or very fertile sites. In these cases use low rate Moddus (0.1 - 0.2 l/ha) at GS 29-30 to stabilise tillers and promote root development.
